Moving Up In The World

February 4, 2011

I’ve just been looking at the data that’s been released on www.police.uk . It show’s crime statistics for your local area. Pretty handy if you’re looking to move. I however, made the mistake of moving before i checked it. Hmmmmm. The numbers in circles represent the number of crimes reported in that area in december 2010.

This is where I grew up:

and this is where I’ve just moved to:

TBG Presents Twitter

October 21, 2010

Monetising Twitter has been a topic of much debate over the last year or two, and with it’s ever increasing scope for brands to advertise using its platform, it’s  a hotter topic than ever. This video, hosted by UK agency (and my former employer) TBG Digital provides an interesting insight from Twitter themselves as to it’s plans on advertising via the social network giant. What’s interesting is their dedication to keep Twitter an enjoyable experience for the user, hence their very considered step by step approach towards advertising. Keep an eye out for promoted tweets also – I think we’ll be seeing lots more of these.

Internet Week

October 15, 2010

This November will see the first Internet Week Europe. A five day event in London that looks to celebrate the best digital offerings in the industry. There’s a tonne of cool stuff going on from breakfast at Mother to a host of digital drop-in’s from industry experts. I’m personally looking forward to Metaphwoar on Tuesday night. You can find out more about it here:

Youtique

October 5, 2010

Another great idea from the guys at PokeYoutique. An online shopping channel for French Connection that works by utilizing Youtubes ability to embed links within video. You see an item of clothing you like – click on it at the end of the clip, and you’re taken straight through to the product within the French Connection site. A simple, helpful style guide with a decent call to action and no faffing about. Well done team Poke:

The Wilderness Downtown – Interactive Music Video

September 1, 2010

You may remember a few years back, Arcade Fire’s interactive music video for Neon Bible. The one where a singing head and two hands move around and do different stuff when you click on them. Anyway, they’re back at it, this time using html 5 and Google Street View to wow you with their talent.

There’s something quite cool about the mucky resolution google pics sitting with polished sections of video & 3D, and it’s another step in the right direction for the progression of html5.

See what you think:

History Pin

June 30, 2010

I just stumbled upon this the other day. A great way to collaborate all sorts of old photos and stories from various locations across the globe using the google maps api. Some of the photos also mach up to the street view images which is cool. I do hope it takes off as the value of this relies heavily on content (sadly only two pics of the Isle of Wight).

Enjoy:

Snapshots Of Provence

January 26, 2010

Provence is a truly beautiful region of France. In fact it might have been the most beautiful place in the world, had it not been for this site about Provence which I think might just supersede the place itself.

Described as ‘A sound experience from the travel book of photographer Thomas Duval and sound designer Tacteel’ it’s a wonderfully elegant piece of design (both sound and image).

Wouldn’t it be great if more tourist boards were this experimental:
