Creative Social presents …. The Future of Advertising

November 12, 2010

Finally I managed to get to an Internet Week event after missing Tuesday’s apparently brilliant Metaphwoar. It was ‘Creative Social presents the Future of Advertising and featured some great talks from some of the worlds most innovative creative directors.

Technology was a huge focus for the majority of the night – with some particularly interesting points from Work Club’s Andy Sandoz who wrestled with the concept of humans becoming machines (heavy stuff for what was supposed to be a talk about advertising).

Another great talk that wasn’t quite so reminiscent of a Terminator movie was Sam Ball’s insight into the gaming world, looking at behavioral pattens of gamers all over the world and the impact that games have on our behavior as consumers. One particularly interesting point he made was that people in certain communities would earn real money within these games (farming for gold, harvesting crops etc.)  whilst gamers in other communities would happily spend real money to skip the monotony of these same tasks, in effect developing their own economic systems within the platform. Certainly food for thought.

Hopefully videos of the talks will be uploaded at some point. In the mean time you can view Andy Sandoz’s presentation here.

TBG Presents Twitter

October 21, 2010

Monetising Twitter has been a topic of much debate over the last year or two, and with it’s ever increasing scope for brands to advertise using its platform, it’s  a hotter topic than ever. This video, hosted by UK agency (and my former employer) TBG Digital provides an interesting insight from Twitter themselves as to it’s plans on advertising via the social network giant. What’s interesting is their dedication to keep Twitter an enjoyable experience for the user, hence their very considered step by step approach towards advertising. Keep an eye out for promoted tweets also – I think we’ll be seeing lots more of these.

Get Your Energy Back

October 19, 2010

Check out this slick projection mapping masterpiece for the Toyota Auris Hybrid – a car that ‘gets its energy back’ through some technical wizardry. Anyway – the team at Glue London put this together and the result is quite brilliant. I’ve still yet to see projection mapping in real life but if it’s even half as impressive as it appears on screen, then expect to see a lot more:

The Man Your Man Could Tweet Like

July 14, 2010

By now most of us I’m sure are aware of the brilliant new Old Spice campaign from W&K Portland (i’m on a horse? swan dive?). Well, they’ve brought the fight online by posting video responses to fans tweets. Executed in typically suave Isaiah Mustafa fashion, they are brilliantly written and great to watch. Follow them on twitter or check out their youtube channel.

Here are my favorites:

Another fantastic talk from ad man Rory Sutherland. Some great insight here:

Ed Hamilton – Copywriter

March 10, 2010

Another one of those simple but brilliant ‘I wish I’d thought of that’ ideas. London copywriter Ed Hamilton has published his CV online using google maps, and with over 10,000 views already it certainly seems to do the trick:

Jealous? You’re damn right I am.

A Good Year For Ads?

February 22, 2010

Will 2010 be a year for great advertising, well so far so good.

Having watched the fantastic Old Spice TV spots by W&K repeatedly, I just stumbled upon this great little ad for Nolan’s Cheddar :

What’s great is that both manage to make the product the feature whilst maintaining their humour & credibility.
